Nadi Shodhana
The Power of Breath: Exploring Nadi Shodhana

Our breath is more than just an automatic process that keeps us alive; it is a powerful tool that can help us find balance, calmness, and clarity in our daily lives. One such technique that harnesses the power of breath is Nadi Shodhana, also known as alternate nostril breathing.
What is Nadi Shodhana?
Nadi Shodhana is a pranayama technique from the yogic tradition that involves breathing through alternate nostrils. The word "Nadi" translates to energy channels, and "Shodhana" means purification. By practicing Nadi Shodhana, you can balance the flow of prana (life force) in the body, calm the mind, and reduce stress.
How to Practice Nadi Shodhana
- Find a comfortable seated position with your spine straight and shoulders relaxed.
- Place your left hand on your left knee in Jnana Mudra (index finger and thumb touching).
- Bring your right hand towards your face and place your index and middle fingers between your eyebrows.
- Use your right thumb to close your right nostril and inhale deeply through your left nostril.
- Close your left nostril with your right ring finger, release your right nostril, and exhale completely.
- Inhale through the right nostril, close the right nostril, release the left nostril, and exhale through the left nostril.
- This completes one round. Repeat for 5-10 rounds, focusing on the breath and maintaining a smooth, steady rhythm.
